Somewhat belated update, but the longer I procrastinate the more [wiggle hands] embarrassing it will be.
So, I disappeared for three months to go work at a mine. It went fairly well, all things considered! Left with a good reference and a desire to go back to that mine except for the fact it probably wouldn't be a good idea*. Unfortunately, they were not able to justify extending my contract, because I could not drive, so I'm back in my hometown, focusing on learning to drive.
The learning is going well so far. Yesterday I managed to drive for 50 minutes and it involved traffic lights and roundabouts and 80km/h roads and merging lanes. And I only had one Educational Near Miss.
*The mine's remaining life is not that long, which combined with fact that redundancy payments are based in how long you've worked somewhere + the job market for geologists is good now but may not be good in the future, means going back would not be super advisable.

(I've been trying to do internship-searching at the same time as honours, it's hard and bad. Still, thesis due in ~3 weeks so it'll be over soon. Maybe I will have the energy to post then...)
