May. 13th, 2019 07:36 amA mildly annoying thing: I tell someone an amusing anecdote of some sort of horse riding accident, and halfway (around the part of the story where I say 'and then the horse just completely faceplanted') through my conversational partner asks 'Did they die?'
'...If they did, would I be telling this as an amusing anecdote?'
Like, I'm glad(?) that most people are at least aware that falling over for a horse is potentially fatal, it's strictly better than the alternative, but it would be nice if people realised that it isn't universally fatal? Heck, I've seen horses fall over in person about 10 times? There have been zero obvious injuries, let alone deaths. (And there are reasons for that: most of the horse riding activities I do are with middle aged horses, not doing particularly dangerous things, so most accidents are pretty minor. But still, that situations isn't that unusual.)
