Dec. 17th, 2019 02:47 pmI've been getting into mosaic knitting. It's a kind of colourwork knitting, but the neat thing is you only need to deal with one string of yarn at a time. The tl;dr version of it is that every two rows, you alternate what colour you are knitting, and slip stitch stitches you want to be the other colour.
It's really easy to knit!
...and a pain and a half to make patterns for. Because for each set of two rows, they need to be a majority in the colour you are knitting with, and you can't really slip more than three stitches in a row without weirdness happening. And you basically cannot knit diagonals-- because you cannot slip stitches of the alternate colour when they weren't the alternate colour last row!
This pattern took me multiple attempts to make as a thing that you could actually mosaic knit, and there was an embarrassing false start where I posted an impossible version to tumblr because I hadn't worked out it was impossible. But now, I think I have finally got it in a possible, knittable format!
