Writing Tips I Keep Forgetting
May. 9th, 2020 05:08 pmThe secret trick to all writing, the rule 0 of increasing your word count is sitting down to write. Not waiting for the right mood to come by, or the stars to align, just sitting yourself* down in front of a word processor and writing some things. Even if they are bad things, and it feels like pulling teeth. The secret is to start.
If you are motivated by ~numbers and pretty graphs~, you should probably keep track of your daily word count, and put it in pretty graphs. Maybe make a graph of your cumulative words over the month day by day, plotted over the top of a easy to achieve cumulative daily word count, so you can see your word count graph go up more steeply.
Deadlines: are good.
Really short term deadlines are good. Something as simple as 'I need to get all my words for today written before I go to the blood bank, because I will be sleepy and a bit useless afterwards' will make you write a lot of words.
*All instances of 'you' apply to myself. Maybe not other people. But definitely myself.
