A short list of WIPs re: this, in case that sways anyone's votes:

Original novel shaped things:

• Two enemy horse archers get driven into a blizzard by a mysterious enemy, and must work together to survive. unbeknownst to them, they are currently stuck as random-bystanders-to-pawns in a battle between two science fiction NGOs.


• Can I fix the problems I am currently have with "A god hunting orc and a paladin of the god of harvest team up to ?fight crime?" ? No clue, let's find out!


• What if Pern, but unicorns? And also, lesbian. And both the leads are highly overworked, though one is in a "every time I rest, someone I could have saved might die" way and the other one is "I have just recently got rescue-captured away from the Evil Overlord I work for, and I am so confused by what everyone else is doing but I can't let them know that" kind of way.

Original WIPs (partially outlined edition):

• two streamers meet up in a virtual reality death game (as in you die in the game. you don't die in real life). Lots of stuff about performing and being watched.

fanfic WIPS (partially outlined edition):

• Imperial Coroner canon may have forgotten that women need to make clothes, but I haven't. And I'm going to make Chu Chu really stressed about it!


• Jing Yi centric hurt/comfort, focused on the aftermath of him using himself as bait/a distraction to save the rest of the team


• In the Warhammer 40k universe, the Emperor had to do some endocrinal finagling to make the primarchs work. Had to tap into some old stuff most humans don;t have. Effect: primarchs have vestigial heats. And now that they've been scattered around the universe and can't get that part of The Talk-- (mostly Horus/Sanguinius, set just after Sanguinius is found.)


• Xie Lian has a lot of feelings about gender and being able to transform, especially because of how that's tapped into God Pleasing Crown Prince stuff. (this one is... less outlined, and i'd need to do some canon review. but it's tempting.)

Delicious Original Spaghetti

• There's so much good stuff on the menu. I've got a whole giant document that's just lists of appealing original ship premises. We've got "warrior/cursed sword that's use them to do it's bidding," we've got "old human general/old alien general friend," we've got "hot shot test pilot/booksih engineer who keeps saving her life."


• Then we've got all the 'orphaned' ocs that I can throw into a blender. Visually impaired travelling musician with a deep hatred of the printing press! Wizard's familiar who became sentient and escaped, and is currently pretending to be human via meatpuppet! Ghost of the meatpuppet who is put out his murder isn't being investigated!


• We've also got some fun historical concepts like "Georgian era writer who finds one of his potential patrons at a molly house and Great Awkwardness ensues." We've got Victorian era sex workers and trouble making Quakers. We have artisans from different parts of the Mongolian empire who chance to meet each other.

Two enemy horse archers

Are these archers who RIDE horses, or archers who ARE horses? Are they cyborg archer horses????

Okay, so, archers-who-are-horses is /inspired/ but alas, these are human archers who ride horses.

(The backstory of the world was that initially slow Faster than Light travel was invented, so a lot of planets got colonised and terraformed, but because it was a one way trip, there wasn't much communication between them? So some planets had Something[tm] happen to them that caused them to lose technology, and now there's faster ftl there's a whole lot of consternation about What To Do With Them. The planet this is set on was one that had a megasmallpox engineered as a bioweapon, and it had a slow centuries long decline to a medieval-ish tech period as they kept losing knowledge faster than people could learn it. And now, we have steppe nomads who's war is currently being interrupted by The Federation, except the Federation is two different rogue space NGOs who hate each other's guts.)

So... is each NGO going to back a different (metaphorical) horse in the war?

One NGO is supporting one side militarily, because it would make Administering Things so much easier if there was a few distinct empires it could install puppet emperors in.

The other NGO is bouncing around between trying to stop the war, trying to render medical aid to both sides, and trying to administer vaccines.

And they're both having to do it sneakily, because what they are doing is illegal.
