Sep. 23rd, 2024 08:54 pmSituation that has only happened once so far, but still haunts me nevertheless, because I know I did not handle it right:
Step 1: be at a craft meetup
Step 2: Sit next to someone. You know he's queer/lgbtqi+/[you know the group I'm gesturing to]; he doesn't necessarily you are as well.
Step 3: He compliments the colours of the lap quilt you are sewing. The lap quilt is in the colours of the bi pride flag.
Step 4: [thinking] "Ah, I think he's trying to float a trial balloon, but I don't know how to do the I know that you know that I know without unsubtly outing myself to the rest of the craft group"
Step 5: blurt out "Thank you!" before the silence stretches on too long.
Step 6: stare back at this situation for weeks.
