Good Omens
Jul. 16th, 2019 08:20 amI’ve just finished watching Good Omens! I enjoyed it!
...which is a little surprising.
To extend that yuck-yum metaphor, I was ‘ehh’ about the show’s entree, but the dessert hooked me.
The show was slow to start, and while it was definitely a comedy, it wasn’t-- funny? It didn’t make me laugh all that often, or all that loudly. It had to set it self up, but that set up was often toffee-slow.
And then it picked up in episode 3. And it got itself up to speed by episode 4. I was laughing (”You don’t get that sort of performance out of a modern car”). It was fun.
It just took awhile to get there.
I’m putting the book on my to-read list, because I think I might enjoy it more than the show. Because even if the set-up still takes a long time in the book, 50% Pratchett* narration will make it a whole lot more fun, or at least bearable.
*I specify 50% Pratchett, because I have not read any of Gaiman’s stuff, so I have no idea if I like it, but I do know I like Pratchett.
