Unfortunately, I'm pretty sure you can't write in a literature review "Smith* et al and Li* et al would really like to a have a fight behind the bike sheds, but due to being academics in different countries, are instead flinging papers at each other rather than fists." But it's so, so tempting.
(I read the Li paper first, which was arguing that Smith's math was bad and they should feel bad. I'm partway through the earlier Smith paper, and they're arguing that Li's math is... not necessarily bad, but it could be better, darling.)
*Not the names of any real research groups that are having a fight. ...at least not that I'm aware of
