...does anyone have any advice on how to pick an Honours supervisor and project? Because I've managed to narrow my choices down to three-four, but I'm having trouble narrowing it down further. All my options are good! It's hard to pick!

Hopefully vague enough to be not identifying description of my options:

  • Project on a Way Cool Hot Topic, will probably require wet lab work, will use new-to-me machine that goes beep, relatively high chance of project failing but supervisor will try to set things up so the early stages that are unlikely to fail are enough to write a good Honours thesis let's my l33t email sending skills shine
  • Project that will give me actual job skills that employers will like, will let me use a machine that goes beep that I know I like, low chance of failure, set up in a modular way such that if I am efficient with my time I can do more stuff and have an even shinier Honours thesis.
  • Project that will make climate modellers sing my praises, working on an under-studied area get to do some cool and useful chemistry, but on the other hand is literally doing reaction kinetics.
  • Project that explores a newly developed technique and will help build up the dataset, get to use machine that goes beep, high level of wet lab work, higher risk of failure (esp because when I mentioned that I knew chemistry and had ever done column chromatography, potential supervisor went [heart-eyes] and suggested I do the difficult technique with a higher risk of fuck ups.)
