Ninefox Gambit by Yoon Ha Lee is very good.

More coherent thoughts to come when I am not full of squee, running around in excited circles and that one meme of "and I'm like AAAAAAAAH" that I cannot find.

Space Opera! Character focused space opera! Where you have all the information to draw conclusions ahead of time, but the author still manages to blind side you! Quasi-possession! Weird-ass worldbuilding!

I've currently got a hold request on the sequels at library. (And ended up with the third book showing up first :P)

Glad to hear it! Though not the book 3 showing up first, whoops. That would be very confusing. Book 3 is confusing enough as it is!

There's also an extra book of short stories (including a post-trilogy novella) that I keep meaning to buy a copy of. It's called Hexarchate Stories, I believe.
