My university has decided to close completely for pretty much everything except “care for the lab mice” and things of a similar nature.

Which means my lab based Honours project has just blown up in my face.

Because of various things, I had only been able to go into the lab for two days, and now I can’t anymore. (And I enjoyed those two days! I learned that I didn’t dislike labwork, I disliked 3rd year chemistry lab work, and now I don’t get to do any more!)

And now have to change my project from my second choice project to my “I didn’t even choose this one, but I guess you can do it from home?”

And it will affect my employability, because I won’t be able to get enough hours to get a lab certification.

And I’m just mad and stressed. I expected my Honours year to be stressful because I had an ambitious project and I was learning how to do research, not because my project exploded one third of the way through because of a global pandemic!

(I wonder how the people running the Honours are going to deal with the fact 70% of the students just had their project cease to exist out from under them, while the other 30% of students haven’t.)

I’m just-- done. Just done.

The solution that was come up with was 'every person with a lab based project should have a plan B project.' Which isn't ideal, but is technically a solution?
