Apr. 12th, 2020 09:22 amI find the saltiness about competitive Smash Bros. players very confusing.
Part of that is because some of my close friends are competitive Smash players. I can’t tell how much of it is “because they are my friends, their hobbies aren’t people Doing Strange Things Wrong, while to other people Smash players are an enigma” or “because they are my friends, they are actually nice people, and I have not encountered the Grognards.”
But a lot of the salt is just boggling.
“Sakurai said it should be a party game!” Yes, and Sakurai can make as many party games as his heart desires. But saying people who play it competitively are wrong is a bit, hmm, ‘interrogating the text from the wrong perspective’-y, imo.
“They don’t understand fun, because they don’t play with items!” ...no... they’re having fun... they don’t play with items because they don’t like randomness affecting the result... this is very common in competitive play... i don’t know why people think this is strange.
