So, We Know The Devil is a visual novel, so I feel like it should probably count as some sort of book like entity? It is the most recent long-ish form thing I read. (I kinda... inhaled it in two sittings. It's good.)

We Know The Devil is a visual novel about three teens sent to a summer camp for "bad" kids... where the aim is for them to meet and defeat the Devil. It's pretty easy to defeat the Devil if you try, and its ~character building~. I don't want to say much more-- while it's not ruined if you get spoiled, it's certainly better if you go in blind bar checking for triggers. It's a fun psychological-religious horror game with some killer dialogue.

In this game, you don't get to control what the characters say, but every so often there is a situation where only two of the three characters can do something, and you can pick which two. The ending you get depends on which pair spends the most time together. (I highly recommend playing all the routes, they're all very good. And the game is short enough that me playing through all the routes only took three hours or so.)

Also, all the characters are queer, so that's good to. (I'm not going to go into specifics, because spoilers.)

But if you like teenaged disasters, dialogue that whips between hilarious and poignant, psychological horror, and dream logic Protestantism-- there's a fair chance you'll like.

And despite only finishing it yesterday, I've already made some fan art for it! (Which I've put under a cut, because it is spoilers for Venus' ending.)

a thin, pale teenage girl with short blonde hair is being lifted into the sky by a swirling pillar of golden light and newly sprouted white wings. The sky behind is split between night and day, the borders of the two skies bleeding and swirling into each other, the sun below her and the morning star above. Her stigmata-ed hands are held to her mouth, her expression either horror or wonder.

I want to undo the division of day and night // and she’s going up like Jeremiah

WKtD looks very good from the snippets that I've played of it. It looks a little too sad and horrifying for my tastes -- the themes are... a little much. Still, what I've played of it, it does a really good job with giving the characters voices that are a little bit frazzled, and all of their relationships fraught from fear and rejection.
