Hello, person who has matched with me, or is treating me! No matter what you make, I'm probably going to really like it, but I know it's much easier to come up with an idea if you've got some guidance.

If you have an idea unrelated to these prompts, also go ahead! I’m pretty close to guaranteed to like what you make. I’ve also got why I like certain ships mixed in with the prompts. While I’ve listed separate art prompts for most of the ships, feel free to use the writing prompts as art prompts (or the art prompts as writing prompts!) Length is not related to how much I like the ships, and more to how many prompts I could come up with off the top of my head. (And lack of art prompts isn’t related to whether I want art for a ship or not, but likewise to whether I could think of one off the top of my head.) If you are looking for art prompts for ships that do not have them, my art likes contain some generic art prompts.

General Likes:

fluff that has a minor conflict. Things like ‘my SO has had a bad day: I'm gonna make it better!’ or ‘oh no, we forgot that [event] is coming up and have to quickly prepare!’
Hurt/comfort (hurt/comfort > comfort no hurt > hurt no comfort.)

As a Silmarillion specific note: I would really not like Maeglin to give away Gondolin’s position due to torture, and would much prefer it if he either gave it away deliberately, or Angband found Gondolin’s location by other means.

Fenris/Sebastian Vael

I’d love discussions between these two about their belief (or non-belief) in the Maker, building off their banter conversations.
For art or fic: Sebastian introducing Fenris to Andrastian/Free Marches festivals.
Fenris deserves good things, and some tooth rotting fluff wouldn’t go astray.
In fic, I like it when it’s acknowledged that Sebastian wasn’t always an innocent Chantry boy, and he knows what sex, drugs (and rock’n’roll) are, even if he doesn’t partake at the present time.

Sebastian Vael/Male Hawke

You may have noticed a theme in my Sebastian ship prompts with ‘religious discussions.’ I just love characters discussing religion, and how different beliefs change how people relate to each other. I don’t have a Male Hawke, so feel free to make Hawke’s religious views whatever you want.
For art or fic: Celebrating religious holidays together.
In fic, I like it when it’s acknowledged that Sebastian wasn’t always an innocent Chantry boy, and he knows what sex, drugs (and rock’n’roll) are, even if he doesn’t partake at the present time.
I love the idea of them being aggressively chaste and even more aggressively schmoopy.

Anders/Sebastian Vael

Anders and Sebastian both believe in the Maker, but at very different angles, so maybe have them having a friendly debate about their beliefs?
I kind of love the idea of Sebastian going ‘okay, I am NOT going to date the apostate, that is a terrible idea... okay, too late, at least I can’t make it worse... aaaaand there goes my vows. Damn it.’ Just a slow, halting backslide(?) that Sebastian can’t stop. (Bonus points for Anders also going ‘I am not going to date the literal Chantry brother-- damnit.’)
For art or fic: Sebastian helping out Anders at the clinic. It may not be official channels, Anders may be an apostate, but helping people is more important than either of those. (And maybe if he’s closer to Anders, Sebastian thinks, he can convince him to stop being an apostate and go to the Circle.)
Playing with the fact that if they are in a relationship, Anders blowing up the Chantry is even more of a betrayal.
Or the fact that Sebastian Vael is at first motivated by vengeance, and Anders shares his body with a spirit of Justice/Vengeance

Zevran Arainai/Male Tabris, Zevran Arainai/Male Surana

How does the trust between them grow, considering their first meeting? What was the moment that they realised they trusted/loved the other?
Did they grow close because of the fact they were the only two elves in Team Stop The Blight, of in spite of it?
How do the deal with the fact that they have feelings for each other. (Considering what Zevran is like--)
For Male Tabris: What are the culture differences between city elves in Fereldan and Antiva? Is there ever a point where they deeply confused each other. (“You od X?” “…yes?” “But that’s really dangerous!” ”wHAT”) -For Male Surana: On the one hand, mage Circles and the Antivan Crows are very different organisations. On the other, they both exert huge amounts of control over the people who grow up in them. How does the similarities and differences in their childhoods affect their relationship?
Art: fighting together! Cuddles by the campfire.

Zevran Aranai/Male Aeducan

Sometimes an exiled noble needs the help of an assassin to kill his other brother. Sometimes an assassin needs directions in Orzammar. Sometimes the two fall in love despite the better judgment of both.
I also like them falling in love over the course of beating the Blight. From the ‘oh no they’re hot’ of their first meeting to the ‘oh no I’m in love’ of later.
Mutual fish out of water-ness in Fereldan is always fun

Keychain of Creation

Oh, poor Keychain of Creation, gone the way of so many other webcomics—put on permanent hiatus before the author got a chance to finish it. Even so, it is a comic that is near and dear to my heart.

Keychain of Creation is an Exalted fan webcomic, that is to Exalted what a lot of DnD actual play podcasts are to DnD. It has an Exalted setting, with original characters and some original worldbuilding, and a fair amount taking the piss out of the Exalted setting. Exalted is a setting full of powerful heroes, given a fraction of a god’s power to go lay righteous smackdown. Our four heroes are on a quest to find the 5 Keys of Creation, to make sure no evildoers gain access to all five, and thus gain the ability to open any lock (including the ones holding back the eldritch abominations that want to destroy the world.) …They are not necessarily good at this.

I love the mix of proper Exalted flavour over-the-top action and the humour, combined with characters that are the right level of ‘Yep, I can see why this person was chosen as a champion of the gods’ while still coming across as human. …also I have a soft spot for the fact literally everyone has a sad backstory. (Feel free to wallow in the characters’ sad backstories. I love it.)

As a note, considering this comic ended rather abruptly-- I am fine with any take on what happened after canon ended. If you want to set your fic or art after what we last saw in the comics, feel free to do so?

Thrice-Radiant Misho/Resch Dan

I have a soft spot for Misho in the first age. I equally have a soft spot for characters that have no dialogue, so you can interpret them however you want. Take this as your permission to have whatever characterisation for Resch Dan, and whatever romantic relationship dynamic between Misho and Resch that you want. I just want more of these two.
What was their relationship like, post-war with the Primordials? How was it before and after Misho slipped into obsession?
…what happens when Misho and co. go to check on the Moonsilver Key, and meet chimera!Resch Dan?
Art: having a good time in the First Age, post primordial war.

Thrice-Radiant Misho/Unnamed Elder Fae Brother

Ahh, hateships, what a lovely thing! I find the dynamic of flirts as a Fun Quirk™, gets yeeted into a bush highly entertaining.
As a fic prompt, Misho and co. could be passing back through the village, possibly to collect a favour from the fae. Unnamed Elder Fae Brother (UEFB from here, for ease of writing) decides that being someone dramatically In Love and Carrying A Torch For Our Shining Hero is a fun role to play, and goes about doing that. Misho is incredibly put off.
For art: a redraw of Misho’s One Canonical Smooch

Thrice Radiant Misho / Ten Winds

Ah, the old man squad. I love them.
I’d be interested in seeing them commiserate with each other (over a bottle of Ten’s favourite alcohol, probably) about being the two oldest members of the circles, and about the—well, not the Good Old Days, they were still pretty bad, but The Days Where We Had Half a Clue What Was Going On
Alternatively, them commiserating about having to train the other two, that eventually becomes something more.

Ten Winds/His Sidereal Student

For clarification, by ‘His Sidereal Student’, I mean the character that calls him ‘Sifu’ in this comic We don’t know much about him, other than that he’s a Sidereal, Ten Winds trained him, and that he’s still loyal Ten Winds even after he left the All Seeing Eye. It’s not much, but it paints an interesting picture of their dynamic.
What was their relationship like while Ten Winds was training him? Did they have a deliberately-platonic, not-acting-on-their-mutual-attraction deal? Or did they have a secret affair? Did one of them not realise their attraction for the other until Ten Winds left?
Does the Student end up helping the Keychain crew more? Does their relationship start after, eg the Student goes and joins the Gold faction and starts helping the Keychain crew more directly? Does their relationship stay a secret, or does it end up out in the open?

Fire Emblem: Three Houses

Fire Emblem, the home of larger than life characters who somehow all have sad backstories! I love all these sad teenagers-to-adults-depending-on-where-in-the-timeline-we-are.

(As a note, I’ve only played Crimson Flowers and pre-timeskip Azure Moon so far. I’m not against spoilers for other routes, but if you add something that only makes sense if you know how chapter 14 of Silver Snow goes down, I won’t get it.)

Ferdinand von Aegir/Caspar von Bergliez

PARTNERS IN JUSTICE! I’d be interested in fic or art of them working together to spread justice(!) around. In their own, hmm, eccentric ways.
I’m interested in the dynamic they have, where they have very similar goals, but very different reasoning for their goals. For example, how Ferdinand wants to be as best as he can be so he can be the best(!) Prime Minister ever and live up to the noble ideal, while Caspar wants to be as best as he can be to make his own way in the world, because he’s not in line to inherit. -For art: sparring together.

Ferdinand von Aegir/Linhardt von Hevring

I ship Linhardt with people who make him exercise, apparently? But that moment in their B supports when Linhardt is out of breath is what made me ship this, so… [shrug?]
I really like the dynamic of Linhardt trying very hard not to be a noble, and Ferdinand trying to encourage him to match up to the ideal more.
I’d also really be interested in a philosophical discussion between the two. They both have relatively thought through ethical systems, and it would be interesting to see them talk about it with each other.
For art: maybe a drawing of the scene where Ferdinand is trying to chase Linhardt down?

Felix Hugo Fraldarius/Jeritza von Hrym

I love how they are both so driven to improve their martial skills, and how a lot of who they are is defined by Swords
In general, I love the trope/plot device of sword fights standing in for philosophical disagreements, sword fights that are the expression of a greater conflict
For art or fic: Them sparring together.
I am equally happy with a relationship/ potential relationship that started pre timeskip, but then Edelgard Edelgarded, and now they are one opposite sides of the war and are each other’s sword nemeses; or Felix joining the Black Eagles (why? Was it because he wanted to leave the Blue Lions, and the Black Eagles would let him in? Was it for Jeritza? Did he join the Black Eagles at the school, or during the war?)

Caspar von Bergliez/Linhardt von Hevring

I like the idea of them going on adventures together post canon, with Linhardt ‘grudgingly’ going along (but honestly enjoying it, because there’s so much fun to do hands on research)
Caspar gets badly injured in a fight, and Linhardt has to protect him to get him out of it, and then look after him once their clear of the worst of the fighting. Maybe there’s also something stopping magic from working, so Linhardt has to do first aid non-magically.

Linhardt von Hevring/My Unit | Byleth

As a general note, I like both Byleths that are very similar to the character that we see in canon, as well as those with very different personalities that don’t take the canonically available choices.
I’m a big fan of hurt/comfort for this pairing, in either direction of who is hurt and who is the comforter, and whether the hurt is more physical (eg injuries from a battle) or more emotional (eg the ~moral injury of battle.)
I’m interested in Linhardt’s philosophy/moral code, and how that might bounce off Byleth’s.
Post canon fluff is also good! Them researching together, or taking naps together… it’s all good!

Log Horizon

Politics! Worldbuilding! Many good things! Being less exclamation point-y, one of the things I like about this canon is the general attitude of ‘we’re gonna make the world better! And you can’t stop us!’ and characters using their wits and knowledge of the world to make it a better place. Most of the main cast cares. Also, most of the main cast are utter nerds, and the contrast between their personas as great heroes and leaders, and the fact that even in this world they are nerds with not necessarily the best social confidence is hilarious.

Krusty/Shiroe

Too master manipulators, who give as good as they get. I’ll admit a lot of the reason I ship them are the Round Table scenes where I went “Oh god, they deserve each other.” Eg the scenes where Krusty works out Shiroe’s plans before anyone else, or the ballroom scene where Krusty masterfully deflected the obligation to dance and made Shiroe have to do it.
Politicking as flirting. Potentially flirting it takes both parties awhile to realise that’s what they are doing. (Because they are nerds, who have minmaxed their social skills.)
For fic or art: A divergent version of the ballroom scene, where Shiroe manages to make it so that even if he has to dance, so does Krusty.
Due to the traditions of the People of the Land and diplomatic expedience, Shiroe and Krusty end up in a political marriage. It starts out largely for show/purely for political purposes. But it ends up something more.

Nyanta/Shiroe

I really like the idea of Nyanta taking Shiroe under his wing in a more romantic way. I think the romantic affections of a cultured older gentleman would do him good.
For fic or art: Nyanta cooking delicious food for a date between them.
Reminiscing about the old days in the Debauchery Tea Party. Were they crushing on each other back then? If so, did either of them realise it? (Nyanta probably would. Shiroe… maybe not.)
An exploration of identity could be interesting. Because Nyanta is definitely playing a role, but how much of one is he playing? Was he a suave gentleman IRL, or is the fantasy of Elder Tale the only place he can be that sort of person? How comfortable is Shiroe in being the role of the Villain With Glasses, or the founder of the Round Table? How much are either of them playing a role?
For smut fic: Nyanta would make a great caring dom.

The Machineries of Empire – Yoon Ha Lee

Tragic backstories, people being terrible, and pretty worldbuilding... IN SPACE. I am here for the tragedy, and the happiest endings usually being bittersweet (Glass Cannon notwithstanding) and basically no one having a good time of it. (Except Kujen? Kujen might be having a good time.)

Garach Jedao Shkan/Vestenya Ruo

For fic or art: School fluff with these two could be fun. Pranks, going on dates, dates that are some how also pranks.
- Feel free to end the fic with how things go in canon, if you want to go for a more tragic route. Or just let foreshadowing and dramatic irony do the work.
I also have a soft spot for Ruo Lives AUs, even if that does break the plotline a bit. Maybe Ruo managed to fake his own death, or escape some other way, and they meet up again as adults? Maybe he never tricks the magistrate into doing heresy, so he just... lives. He and Jedao stay in touch as they work for the Shuos, and either they never quite see the rot of the hexarchate, or it takes longer for them to see it.

Garach Jedao Shkan/Kujen

I love the deep, deep power imbalance of the relationship. Kujen is the only way Jedao can get what he wants (bringing down the Hexarchate), but Kujen can just string him along infinitely, and what can Jedao do about it? Objectively, not much! And Jedao is bad at seeing himself as a person instead of a tool (“ I’m your gun”) and that does not help.
During one of their once every eighty years sex-cations (…I have no idea how to better describe it), Kujen sex pollens Jedao’s anchor before decanting him into it. [Kujen voice] ‘It’ll be fun and different!’ And it’s not like Jedao can do much about it.
Or, for a non smutty prompt: Kujen and Jedao having a discussion while Jedao is decanted. Preferably a discussion full of subtext and double meanings.
For art: I love the aesthetic of the moth shadows vs the ninefox eye shadows.

Roskoya Mahar/Kujen

I love the dynamic of them being two people sharing a body! Especially in the dynamics it causes. Because Mahar is very much the face Kujen presents to the world, and he can control a lot— but Kujen always has the ability to take over, and Mahar can’t do much about that. And the fact that they can’t really get away from each other because they are basically stapled together.
Playing around with inherent compromises of sharing a body (and considering that Kujen is pretty much going to win any argument), and the intimacy of being someone else’s public face (and often either acting as them or on their behalf and those things getting very mixed up) while simultaneously having a relationship with them.
For art: I’m aware that the fact they don’t have super separate bodies is a bit of potential issue. Drawing Kujen as a moth-shadow or a reflection is both okay with and encouraged by me.

The Magnus Archives

Ah, the Magnus Archives: the setting where metaphysics hate you! I really like it’s dark, nihilistic worldbuilding, where the greatest victory you can get is maybe delaying an apocalypse. Meanwhile your mental health is being abraded by entities greater than human comprehension that think your fear is a delicious snack.

And I love the characters! All of them! Even a lot of the random statement givers! No one is coping or having a good time of it. …Except maybe some of the avatars. But still.

As a note: One of the things I like about this fandom is its dark tone. I’m certainly not against fluff, or softness in fic or art—but I’d prefer it if said fluff or softness is in response to the darkness, if it’s present. Hurt/comfort > random fluff, basically.

Another note: I’d like it if the characters are having to work at having a healthy relationship, that it’s something that takes effort and doesn’t come naturally.

Gerard Keay/Jonathan Sims

Gerry-Lives AUs are great! Both in the form of ‘Gerry never died’ AUs, and ‘Gerry is still a page for whatever reason’ AUs. - Gerry Lives AUs played for either fluff or angst are both good - Fluffy suggestion: Maybe Jon and Gerry had more conversations after their original one, and at some point during them Gerry decides he wants to stick around. Maybe not forever, or even for a long time, but for now. - Angsty suggestion: Jon really did mean to burn the page. But he couldn’t quite bring himself to do it. And he decided to put it off until after stopping the Unknowing. Either he would succeed in preventing the apocalypse, and he could burn the page, or the apocalypse would happen, in which case it wouldn’t matter that Gerry’s page wasn’t burned. And he did succeed at stopping the Unknowing… but then was in a coma. And when he woke up, he couldn’t find the page. (Maybe Elias took it and hid, or maybe it got lost in a mundane way.) He does eventually find the page again—after Eye-pocalypse. Gerry is Not Happy, both about not being properly dead, and also the fact that now he can’t die properly because you think burning a page is going to work during the apocalypse?
Gerry and Jon could meet earlier in the timeline, maybe when Jon is working for research and Gerry is Gertrude’s assistant.
For art: Both of them deserve hugs. (Even if they are ultimately unsatisfying ghost hugs.)

Gerard Keay/Michael Shelley

Assistant squad! Assistants with complicated relationships with their bosses!
I realise that getting both of these people in the same place, at the same time, while alive, involves fudging the timeline. I am assuming if you offered this you are fine with that. But feel free to fudge the timeline and make canon divergence AUs as much as you need to make your fic/art make sense.
I also love the dynamic of them both being competent at very different, non-overlapping things (the supernatural for Gerry, being a functional adult for Michael) that they are constantly going ‘oh no, you sweet summer child! I Have To Help’ at each other.
Them traveling together would be fun, either on a Leitner hunt, or to a paranormal conference. (The mental image of Gerry at a academic conference is delight.)
- This could be done in a case-ficcy way, with a romance sub-plot (or a romance with a case fic subplot)
- or in a H/C way (maybe one of them gets hurt? Or even if they manage to handle the Leitner/monster/whatever in way where none of them gets injured, such an encounter is probably going to leave one shaken and in need of a come down!)
- Or maybe it is a totally normal academic conference, where the biggest problem is “Oh no, he’s cute when he’s giving a presentation on supernatural phenomena while simultaneously being completely wrong.”

Revolutionary Girl Utena

I really like the surreal strangeness of this show. But what I also really like is the relational horror. I’m not sure if that’s the technical term, but for me, a lot of the horror comes from the relationships—all the messed up dynamics, and ways people hurt each other, even when they are trying their best not to. I’d be interested in that being explored in any of the ships below.

But I’d also be interested in characters trying—and at least somewhat succeeding—in having healthier relationships. Even if it takes a lot of work and blood and sweat and tears. Especially with the student characters, there’s the tantalising prospect that they could work out how they are hurting each other and themselves, and fix that.

Kiryuu Touga/ Saionji Kyoichi

I love this pairing, precisely for how terrible everyone involved is. Feel free to go dark—neither Touga nor Saionji really can do healthy relationships, can they?
What happens to them after Utena disappears, and the duelling game stops? What happens once they leave Ohtori (do they ever manage to leave Ohtori? Does only one of them manage to leave?)
Working in the movie canon is highly encouraged. Both in the sense of ‘what if Touga was dead and/or a ghost’ or ‘jeez, child!Saionji’s desire to be like/to be mature like Touga has some dark implications there.’

Kiryuu Touga/Ohtori Akio

I love-to-hate the dynamic between these two. Touga seems to think he’s getting one up on Akio, that he’s out manipulating a manipulator… and he’s really not. Kiryuu Touga/Saionji Kyouichi/Ohtori Akio

Feel free to smush the above prompts together. My feelings about the threesome version of this ship are pretty similar to my feelings about the ships it is made up of.
I just love the chain of unhealthy manipulative badness going on here. Touga thinks he’s getting one up on Akio when he really isn’t, and has dragged Saionji into it. Saionji is slowly realising that Something Is Not Right Here but not fast enough, and Akio is just pleased to have more power over more people. It’s generally un-good and weird for all parties. Except maybe Akio. He’s probably having a great time of it.

The Silmarillion

The Silmarillion! I love all the opportunities for delicious angst, and the many different character interpretations that can all be correct because each character gets, like, two lines of direct dialogue a piece. (Which should be taken as ‘I will like pretty much any interpretation of any character, go wild.)

Celebrimbor/Maeglin

For this ship, I love both fluff... and absurdly tragic ‘rip the reader’s heart out with a spoon’ stuff
Does Celebrimbor see Maeglin’s betrayal of Gondolin as a betrayal directly or indirectly of him? Did Maeglin try to warn him... or not? If you want to go dark with ship, go as dark as you like.
I like characterisation of Maeglin where he gave away Gondolin willingly (mostly because I don’t see that characterisation often.)
Is Maeglin torn between his love for (unnattainable) Idril and (attainable) Celebrimbor? Is Celebrimbor aware of the torch Maeglin holds for Idril? Does he feel he needs to compete?
For fluff, working together in the forge would be good. -Redemption fic is so good!

How does Maeglin feel about Túrin having his father's sword? Distrustful? Strangely relieved, that something of his father’s is being put to good use?

“If I remained with thee, love would lead me, not wisdom” is such a beautiful line, I love it. I generally love Beleg’s loyalty to Túrin, even when it’s against his better judgment.
(I’ll also admit I find the frankly absurd age gap amusing.)

Or one or the other parties deciding not to make a move, Because It Would Be Wrong. Maybe Túrin thinks it would be wrong because Gwindor is so traumatised from Angband, or because he’s betrothed. Maybe Gwindor doesn’t make a move because Túrin is grieving Beleg, or that there’s a limited number of fate elf/man relationships and this probably isn’t one of them.
They both really care for each other, while being in conflict all the time! The whole ‘I love you, but you also keep making my life/city/whatever worse is great.

Tuor/Voronwe

Fish out of water! Tuor doesn’t know much of anything about Gondolin or elvish culture, and Voronwe acts as his guide—but he hasn’t been in Gondolin for a long time, and even if the pace of change is slow because Gondolin is an elf city, it’s still happened. And Voronwe is still getting used to it, both the changes and the being in a city, and it’s difficult for both of them.
I am big fan of working in the older-draft version of Voronwe’s backstory where he is an Angband survivor
- potential prompt: post nightmare hurt/comfort?
I also like the idea of their relationship starting/blossoming/[insert appropriate verb here] while they are travelling. There’s nothing quite like the intimacy of their only being one person you can really share time with, because the person you are on the road with.
