Apr. 10th, 2021 09:33 amFor the past week or so, I have been dealing with cat conflict, and it has been incredibly stressful @.@. If anyone has ever dealt with a similar problem or knows how to deal with this, advice is not just welcome, it is HIGHLY APPRECIATED.
So, we have two cats: Buzz and Miko. Before this all happened, they had a reasonably good relationship. Buzz occaisionally played too roughly with Miko, but that was the worst of it.
Until last week, when Miko suddenly became very aggressive towards Buzz! Not in a “growl growl howl ATTACK ATTACK ATTACK”, but in a “silently stalk while staring at him ATTACK ATTACK ATTACK”. Buzz is now, understandably, terrified of her.
To prevent fights, we’ve been keeping them separated in different rooms of the house, and rotating who is in which room. (For reasons of “maybe... if they can smell each other... this will chill things out?” and also because our house is fairly open plan, one cat is going to be in a smaller area than the other so it is only fair to rotate them so neither is stuck in the smaller area the whole time.) However, this is not sustainable. For one, I’m worried for ~enrichment reasons if they spend long periods of time in the smaller area with occasional human visits. And also, Miko finds closed doors very distressing, and shes will communicate this loudly, prolonged-ly, and in the middle of the night.
The current plan is to try and re-introduce them to each other as if they were stranger cats, but I have no idea if that plan even makes sense.
